Review of The Comedy (2012) by Jared B — 14 Nov 2012
The Comedy is the first comedy I've seen in a while to feel legitimately subversive in how it delivers its laughs and themes. It's not content to merely view the entitled and disaffected lifestyle it comments on; it revels in it, giving the movie ambiguity and sadness that goes beyond one-sided criticism of hipster culture, also making it utterly unpleasant and difficult.
It's a hard film to like, but I see it as kind of avant-garde in its own quiet way.
