Review of The Color Purple (1985) by Adam B — 18 Oct 2012
Although, in many ways Spielberg strayed from Alice Walker's original story, this movie is tight enough to hold it's own... It's hard to believe that Whoopie Goldberg didn't win an Oscar for her portrayal of Celie, the used and abused child bride of Danny Glover's "Mister".
Everyone in this movie is amazing, especially Oprah Winfrey as Sophie, Mister's son Harpo's outspoken wife. If you have a heart and soul, this movie about love, loss, strength and redemption will make you laugh, cry, and be thankful for the people in your life that make it worth living.
