A street-wise kid, Mark Sway, sees the suicide of Jerome Clifford, a prominent Louisiana lawyer, whose current client is Barry 'The Blade' Muldano, a Mafia hit-man. Before Jerome shoots himself, he tells Mark where the body of Senator Boyd Boyette is buried. Mark escapes, and Clifford shoots himself. Mark is found at the scene, and both the FBI and the Mafia quickly realize that Mark probably knows more than he says. Mark decides he needs a lawyer, and goes looking for one. He finds Reggie Love, who also becomes convinced that Mark knows more than he says, but Mark isn't talking...

Great piece of work. I love this movie, I had seen it dozens of time. Awesome acting cast, great story. Susan Sarandon should stick with the tough minded lawyer more often, as Regina "Reggie" Love, she brings certain charm and dynamics into work and Tommy Lee Jones as arrogant and narcissistic 'Reverend' Roy Foltrigg add a juice to this movie and then young Brad Renfro was spectacular as stubborn, but very smart and resourceful Mark Sway, as was Mary-Louise Parker, who played Dianne Sway, Mark?s mother. This was Brad Renfro's film debut.

Lawyer's Secretary: Where are your parents?

Mark: Where are yours?

Lawyer's Secretary: Are you even injured?

Mark: Do I look injured?

Lawyer's Secretary: Well, we only do injuries.

Mark: Well, I'll just go get hit by a truck and come back.

Mark: Thanks Rev. Roy, you've been a real pain in the ass.

Roy: Thank you, son. I can assure you, you have been an even larger pain in the ass.

Clint Von Hooser: [Reggie borrows money from Clint so she can take Mark Sway to New Orleans] There goes my rent money. Now where am I gonna stay?

Reggie: You can stay here and take care of Momma Love. She likes you better than me, anyway.

Clint Von Hooser: Well, that ain't hard to do.
