Review of The Client (1994) by Michael H — 25 Dec 2011
The Client is one of the best John Grisham film adaptations to date. It's an excellent legal drama with masterful performances by Susan Sarandon, Tommy Lee Jones and Brad Renfro. The story is interesting, thrilling and emotional at times.
With such a great cast, The Client presents itself as a film that takes you beyond the courtroom itself and into the lives of the protagonists. This is certainly not a bland, emotionless film. Brad Renfro's performance is beyond exceptional, he portrays Mark Sway with a very skilled level of authenticity and confidence.
Sarandon, as his lawyer Reggie Love is brilliant, while her character's story is intriguing and adds a lot to this film. Overall, The Client is an exceptional legal thriller, it delivers a strong story, excellent performances by the cast as well as some well placed humour.
The ending of the film is worthwhile and well executed. Director Joel Schumacher has transformed Grisham's novel into a truly excellent film.
