Review of The Cider House Rules (1999) by Thomas F — 10 Oct 2007
It took me quite a while before the film actually drew me in emotionally, but in the end it had me. Not easily digested, its message probably lies in its moral ambiguity. Michael Caine is outstanding and fully deserving of the Oscar he was awarded for his part (although I thought his accent sounded a bit hokey).
I was quite impressed with Delroy Lindo's performance as the incestuous Mr. Rose, too. The score is entrancing, and the landscape is breath-taking. My real beef is mostly with the pacing - especially the exposition seemed very long and tedious.
