Review of The Chumscrubber (2005) by Dave N — 27 May 2009
After the suicide of his friend, emotionally-disturbed reclusive teenager is forced into communication with a group of classmates that kidnaps a little kid in attempt to threaten him into giving them his dead friend's pills.
If ever a film has tried to be exactly like 'Donnie Darko', this is it. It's a little simpler, a little less interesting, a lot shallower, and nowhere near as funny, but it still is a pretty decent indie drama, with great performances from Allison Janney, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, and Camilla Belle's eyebrows.
Movies like this can be pretty annoying, they tend to overdo the quirkiness and forget to actually be any good, but 'The Chumscrubber' is quite entertaining for the most part...
