When Chronicles of Riddick came out, I foolishly caved into hype and avoided the movie since moviegoers were blasting it and comdeming it for being so uniqely different from it's original, Pitch Black.

Chronicles of Riddick takes place 5 years after Pitch Black as Riddick fends off bounty hunters and finds out Imam (returning Keith David) put the hit on him in order for Riddick to come back to New Mecca and help them stop a menace known as the Necromongers (led by the likes of Colm Feore, Karl Urban, and Thandie Newton), a race of evil that forcibly convert many to their religion and kill the rest.

Riddick, naturally, doesn't care and escapes their wrath but winds up in a hellish prison where he runs into Pitch Black's "Jack" character (now going by Kyra and played by Alexa Davalos.

They work to escape and head back to take down the Necromongers. There's a lot more to the story, but then again, that seems to be the common theme that I kept missing over when I skipped out on chances to watch this surprisingly well-made film.

It's a shame so many foolish people mis-labeled this one. Why retread the same grounds of Pitch Black when you can take the story in a greater direction. Overall, this wound up being fantastic and a lot of fun to watch.

It severely left me hanging and craving for more. Here's hoping director Twohy and Diesel get another chance at completing this trilogy (which was the original intention).
