Review of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) by Andrew S — 09 Dec 2009

With what seems to be an overall negative opinion about this film, I watched this as a stand alone film, not a sequel to a great film "Pitch Black". Im glad I did take that point of view, because expecting more of the original will leave you very disappointed.

You join the ride of Riddick which is around 5 years after the events of "Pitch Black" and once again, the film like the original starts off with a bang, instantly im into the film. The scale of this film is so much bigger than "Pitch Black" and it sited the style of this film perfectly.

The story is huge, the effects at times are lovely and enjoyment factor pretty high. I loved the character of Riddick from "Pitch Black" and im glad there was a film more focused on him, not that "Pitch Black" wasn't anyway.

Diesel does a great job once again and I enjoyed this all the way. You don't totally need to have seen "Pitch Black" to enjoy this or even get it, but obviously it would be more beneficial if you do before watching this.

Plot is strong, settings are brilliant and acting I thought was top class also.

This unfortunately seems like Marmite this film, either you seem to love it or hate it. I loved it, but it seems alot more people seem to hate it, and I dont truly think this film deserves that.
