This movie is definately a "melodrama"...but it's done very well....A spoiled child starts a ugly vicious lie about her teachers @ a boarding school being lovers & this child blackmails another student into backing up her story.
..needless to say it ruins the school & the teachers reputations...eventually the children admit they lied...but the damage is already done & leads the one teacher Martha played by MacLaine to admit she has "lesbien feelings" & leads her to hang herself.
..a very sad story but well done.
