Review of The Children Act (2018) by Valerie S — 20 Sep 2018
I thought that this movie was fantastic. It tells an interesting and beautiful story, and is very emotionally moving. Emma Thompson is amazing, of course, and I was very impressed by Fionn Whitehead's performance... He is clearly very talented and he is really fantastic in this film.
One thing that I will mention about this film is that in the US it is rated 'R', but I saw it in the UK where it is rated 12A. I actually disagree with the UK rating. The language, sexual content, etc. in the film are quite mild, but the topics that it centers around, particularly the theme of mortality, are quite adult and intense, and I think that they would be difficult for a 12-year-old to deal with.
Overall, I thought that this movie was really beautiful and stunningly acted. I found myself immediately emotionally invested in the characters, and the ending had me in tears.
