Review of The Cat and the Canary (1939) by Simon T — 07 Feb 2017
Early Bob Hope vehicle, stuffed with every Old Dark House cliché - the reading of the will, the passage behind the bookcase, the painting with the moving eyes, and even a Mrs Danvers-like housekeeper.
Bob Hope's wisecracks are pretty dreadful, but it's atmospherically designed, nicely performed, and done and dusted in 75 mins. There are worse ways to spend an evening.
