Review of The Candidate (1972) by Jeff B — 20 Oct 2011
I've been wanting to see this one for a while because it won Best Screenplay, and since The Ides of March came out, I figured now would be a good time to check out an earlier political film. Well, it's a good movie, Robert Redford is excellent in the title role, back when he was having an great run of films.
It is a well written film, I like the changes Redford goes through, though I think the best moments are at the very end when the actual election takes place and the moments after it. Looking at the nominees, I can see why it won (even though I've only seen 3 of the 5 nominees).
I probably would have voted for Murmur of the Heart, but I'm not too upset that this won.
