Review of The Butcher Boy (1998) by David B — 18 Sep 2009
Most unusual story depicting the 'fun & games' a dirt poor Irish boy manages to enjoy despite his abusive alcoholic father, his suicidal mother and the Cold War nuclear doom and gloom surrounding the Bay of Pigs incident (that's the amazing things about kids innit?); a thoughtful and watchable film despite all the shouting and banter (and something else I can't put my finger on) which prevented me from really getting in to the story or characters.
