Review of The Broadway Melody (1929) by Jen I — 06 Jan 2011
For a snapshot of the popular culture of that era, it's a fun movie to watch. The acting was a bit hokey, but that would be expected for that period. The story was unrealistic, but entertaining, which is what film was all about back then.
There was an element in the story that struck me as rather clever. This was an MGM picture, and the so-called villain in the story was named Jacques Warriner. Hmm, strange coincidence his name sounded oddly like Jack Warner from the Warner Bros.
Studios. I liked that.
