Review of The Broadway Melody (1929) by Kim B — 12 Jan 2019
Movie has aged terribly. The best part was it ran only an hour and a half-I seriously couldn't take much more. The acting was horribly overdramatic, the jokes were terribly dry. The script was bland and shallow and they kept saying over and over again "on the level.
" The costumes were aged and tacky, their accents were cringeworthy. The music was mainly forgettable, with only one song I sorta liked about you were an angel sent to me. The story was horribly predictable.
The sisterly love was cute-I will admit that but everything else was pure garbage. The whole film moved incredibly slow and could've been edited down to 20 minutes. How this won best picture says how low expectations were back then-yikes.
