Review of The Bride Wore Black (1968) by Martin T — 31 Jul 2008
Terrific Hitchcockian revenge thriller, right down to the magnificent Herrmann score. Tarantino claimed he hadn't seen this before making Kill Bill, but I don't see how that's possible. He cribbed almost as much stuff from here as he did from Lady Snowblood.
The film is great at building tension, and Jeanne Moreau's stoic, determined bride is a great performance. Truffaut loads the proceedings with plenty of clever touches.
