Review of The Bride Wore Black (1968) by Rosemarie S — 01 Aug 2009
It should have been the happiest day of a woman's life - marrying the man whom she has loved since she was a child. Immediately following the wedding, upon the church steps, Julie Kohler's husband is murdered! As a widow she is hell bent on taking revenge on behalf of her husband at whatever cost against the five murderers. She is seductive, smart, and a cerebral assasin. I found myself constantly questioning the next steps only to be surprised by the character's brilliant planning of revenge upon each man. Rarely do I find myself screaming at the screen in praise but this was a brilliant film that challenges the viewer while offering a strong Hitchcock-like vibe.
This film has no need to include amazing scenes of violence because the story itself captures the imagination like no violent scene ever could. By the way, the end twist was amazing - just when you think all hope is lost.
A fantastic film from 1968 which can now be rented on DVD and so I say RENT IT.
