The story is simple, the style vivid and unforgettable. Beside the usual penchant for mixing sex and zen-magic, typical of supernatural wuxia, what's impressive is the mature visual style, I dare to say an obvious influence for Peter Jackson in LotR - and so, at least a decade of western fantasy flicks.
