Review of The Bride with White Hair (1993) by Dustin W — 23 Jan 2011

A well made movie. Quite a classic now. Movie start off saying a flower that bloom every 20 years can make the dead come alive. The king is sick and 4 soldiers task to take it. Leslie Cheung is guarding it and kills them.

He says it is only for the woman he love. Flashback to the past, he is to be the successor of a clan, favour by his master. One day out in the wild, he is chase by wolves. A little girl save his life but he fainted.

He is always in trouble and try to be righteous. The 2nd master didn't like him as he is always trying to promote his daughter as the successor. She like the boy though. Now grown up, Leslie still gets into troubles but always get protected by the master.

The latest trouble he is punish to face the walls for 3 days. The girl visit him and give him a heirloom jade. He ask her to stand in for him awhile and off he goes. Meanwhile, a village is been attack by soldiers and Brigitte Lin came to kill them all.

A couple runs away and seek Leslie help for the woman is about to give birth. Brigitte also arrive but the woman die but baby is safe. He give the man the jade. Brigitte fly off and he track her down and peep at her bathe.

She is the killing machine of a siblings demon (Francis Ng and Elaine Lui) who are conjoin back to back and banish by the clan of Leslie many years ago. Francis lust after Brigitte and now she is order to kill Leslie and his master.

At the clan meeting, the master task Leslie to lead the team to kill the baddies. Leslie is angry when the girl told him she has kill the man who got the jade. He got drunk and refuse to take part in the war.

Then they were attack. Brigitte and Leslie fought and he willingly let her kill him which she also hesitated. Then the girl shot arrow at her, Leslie save her and escape. Both of them make love and got together immediately, vow to quit the martials arts world for good.

The girl went back to expose the doings of Leslie. Brigitte went back to the siblings and wants out, willing to do anything. Francis wants to have sex with her but is angry she has given it to Leslie and her heart is no longer around.

She is made to walk on hot ground and been beaten up along the path out of the sect without using her kungfu. She got through heavily injured. The clan found Leslie and want him to return and explain to the master.

When they return, the place is already been attack and the master is decapitated. One survivor says the massacre is done by Brigitte. She went in now to find Leslie and fulfill the vow made together. He ask if she did all the killing, she is angry he didn't trust her and become white hair demoness, kills everyone and heavily injures him.

The siblings came to finish off Leslie but Brigitte save him. They were no match for them. Francis is struggling wheather to kill Brigitte and Leslie cuts them both apart and defeated them. Brigitte left.

So Leslie is awaiting for her for 10 years since.
