Review of The Boys Are Back (2009) by Lee G — 11 Oct 2010
Overall, a good film with convincing performances from the entire cast. It is never easy dealing with the death of loved ones, and this shows how young people deal with it as well as the surviving parent coping with loss and added responsibility that he took for granted.
I have one issue with the film: A few times, the dead wife appears so Owen's character can talk to her about something. It completely took me out of the story. They were too on the nose. In addition, I am not convinced these moments were needed at all.
I think the film would have been stronger without them, or just showing Owen's character silently dealing with his thoughts in those moments.
