Review of The Boy Next Door (2015) by Frederic C. B — 26 Apr 2016
The Good:
There's a good theme about adultery and infidelity.
The Not-so-Good:
Amazing talents (like Kristin Chenoweth) feel wasted in this movie. The movie starts a bit slow, to the point it's almost boring, the story only starts to get interesting after around 45 minutes in. Even so, the plot and thriller part, as well as the conclusion feels too predictable. This feels like a weak copy of "The Guest" but without any bits of its eerie and suspenseful vibe. Ryan Guzman looks too charming to play an evil guy, aside from his character seemingly having two contrasting sides by being really caring to Claire's son, but also abusive to Claire. That's why he never looked as threatening and scary as he should have been. The climax fight was a bit too gross.
