Review of The Boy Next Door (2015) by Fernando C — 25 Jun 2016
It's not the worst thing you'll watch, and it's not the best thing you'll watch. If you like these types of movies, as ridiculous as some of the acting is, you'll probably like it. Ryan Guzman is creepy and deranged enough to make his character work and J-Lo is passable as his target of affection, even though in some scenes she seems like she doesn't care.
There are no real jump scares like there sometimes are in these types of movies, the suspense lies more in Guzman's character and just what he is going to do to J-Lo next to torture her more. These movies have been done a million times, and done much better, but they've also been done much worse so I can't say it's all that bad, it will kill 90 minutes and that's pretty much all you need it to do.
MILD RECOMMENDATION, just don't expect to be blown away.
