Review of The Book of Life (1998) by Helena P — 30 Sep 2007
I saw this again recently (2007) and was struck by how relevant its themes continue to be. What was sardonic and amusing in 1998 suddenly resonates differently in the current post-9/11 world. On another note, this was one of the first films to be shot digitally, and at the time, the death of celluloid was being heralded.
Martin Donovan as Jesus checking into a hotel as DW Griffith is an ironic take on that particular moment in film history.
