Review of The Book of Henry (2017) by James L — 25 Jun 2017
The Book of Henry is essentially a kids movie that is only appropriate for adults. The plot is far-fetched and kid-centric, giving the eponymous character an unrealistic control of his environment and his family affairs.
Despite these obvious flaws, the four main characters (Henry, Henry's mother, Henry's brother, and Henry's neighbor) are very easy to like and to root for. The strength of their character makes you willingly forget the fantastical plot and allows you to suspend disbelief.
The movie's sudden dark twist is probably too violent and intense for children, especially since the movie almost condones violence as a means to fix dire circumstances.
