An ill-conceived adaptation of the Wolfe novel, this film isn't quite the total fiasco some make it out to be, but (aside from Hanks) almost everyone is miscast, DePalma's direction is disappointingly lifeless, and the script has a hard time even approximating the tone of the source material.
