Review of The Blues Brothers (1980) by Andrew N — 29 Nov 2009
WHY HAVE I NOT REVIEWED THIS MOVIE YET. This was the question I was asking to myself when thinking up movies to review (mainly to dodge working on a project for one of my classes) BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT. This is one of my favorite movies of all time and easily my favorite comedy EVER.
The positives. The plot is hilarious but never over complicated. It reminds me quite a bit of a very good old episode of the Simpsons. A very simple overarching plot (Brothers have to get money to stop orphanage from getting demolished) but proceeds to through in every possible what could go wrong scenario that could actually be perceived as side-splittingly funny (AKA getting chased by cops through a mall. while still driving a car). The characters are hilarious. The brothers are funny but the other characters give even more color to it. Be it the Penguin (head nun), the other band members, Carrie Fisher (yes she's in this) or whatever. Also, if non of that's your thing, brutality towards Neo-Nazis is involved so thats a plus. (Quick note: it's also a musical, however the music is very very very well done).
Overall though, this movie is easily my favorite comedy ever for the aforementioned reasons and I suggest you go watch it immediately if you are in any way a fan of comedy, SNL, or soul music.
