Review of The Blob (1988) by Allan S — 06 Apr 2010
Having not watched this since I was about five, I went crazy when I asked my mother whatâ??s on TV and she abruptly replied â??the blob?â??, straight to the TV to relive some childhood memories I went. So what can I sayâ?¦well its not disappointing like I thought itâ??d be, in fact it was bloody fantastic! This is where so many of those great B-rate funny horrors come from. As some of you already know, the whole film is actually based on real life situations found in the back of Texan Burger Kings, so it was such a relief to find it really stays close to its roots. Blobby I love you.
Moments where the jock is being smothered in blob whilst attempting to reach for his love, ending in his dissolving face layering away with slime, or the other player getting ready for some smutty tit action to find his friendâ??s face has been eaten inside out, or the kid getting absolutely whargarbled in the sewerâ?¦all of it is just leagues above most horror deaths. And even more surprising, the effects are actually good, even the blob looks like the real life blob; at times I really thought it was the actual blob caught on camera, but then it makes that noise which kinda gives it away that itâ??s the fake one. I love you Blobby.
So if you havenâ??t watched this, definitely watch this absolute classic. Blobby love out.
