Review of The Blob (1988) by Chuck M — 08 Jun 2009
I watched this and the original within a week of each other, and I enjoy both greatly. What's the difference? The new one has much more gore and also tries to explain the creature's origin. The new one also wastes less time before the monster attacks and has much cooler individual death scenes.
Johnny Drama (Dillon) makes an original protagonist: "I'm wearing a leather jacket, and that makes me a rebel." I found myself laughing at him during serious moments because I couldn't take him seriously.
This is grade B science fiction, and I loved it. If you were expecting Citizen Kane, then #1: your expectations are slightly off, and #2: you'll miss out on a fun romp through disasterville.
