Review of The Black Stallion (1979) by Carol H — 07 Dec 2012
Unlike the book, which doesn't hold up when you read it as an adult, the film Coppola made of the book is a child's dream that does translate into a movie all ages can love. The scenes on the island, the shipwreck, Alec learning to ride, and the culminating race are all in breathtakingly beautiful cinematography.
Mickey Roonie's Oscar-worthy performance and Hoyt Axton as Alec's father are both good in their roles. I loved this movie from start to finish.
