Review of The Birth of a Nation (1915) by Jason S — 02 Sep 2008
Very long and incredibly racist.
Often the actors' displays of emotion do not fit the situation or are overly dramatic.
I suppose it is important to remember and view this movie in the historical context in which it was made, as well as who made it (Griffith's father fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War).
I'm sure this film was revolutionary for its time but I have mixed feelings about it overall.
