Review of The Birth of a Nation (1915) by Carlos O — 07 Oct 2008
Worth seeing for anyone interested in film history-- given its groundbreaking use of cinematography and its being the first "Full Feature". The content of the film itself is also worth seeing--simply for its providing insight into America's dark side (specifically its white supremacist as manifest in the klu klux klan). While I categorically condone such sentiments, I consider the movie worth seeing for reasons similar to Roger Ebert's considering Birth of a Nation a "good film":
"'The Birth of a Nation' is not a bad film because it argues for evil. Like Riefenstahlâ??s Triumph of the Will, it is a great film that argues for evil. To understand how it does so is to learn a great deal about film, and even something about evil.".
