Review of The Big Short (2015) by Rob C — 10 Jul 2016
Beautiful editing and great storytelling turns a dry and boring subject into an educational understanding of the 2008 financial crisis. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. It's when people try to get around that basic concept that misery occurs and here it happened at a grandiose scale.
This film is a great example of show don't tell, and the moments where it splits from reality in order to favour the narrative it is upfront and in your face that it is doing so building a level of trust that most Hollywood biopics fail to achieve.
Seriously though... great editing. Watch this film for a sense of how editing can be used to shape story and convey info.
