Review of The Big Short (2015) by Tania Ann B — 18 Apr 2016
'The Big Short' is both entertaining and confusing, hence the balanced rating. I generally consider myself a reasonably intelligent man but the subject of economics flies completely over my head.
This movie amusingly addresses this realisation that there are people like me, often breaking the fourth wall in order to explain complex terminology and concepts. It even possibly uses the best teaching tool to mankind in the form of a naked Margot Robbie in a bath.
Despite the acknowledgement, dialogue still retains too much complicated material to hold the full interest of every audience member. Nonetheless I found enjoyment from its tamed 'Wolf of Wall Street' style and the cast who are on good form.
Predominant characters such as those played by Carrell, Gosling and Bale are nicely diverse in personalities and equally engaging. Too bad most of the time I had no clue what they were talking about. Just give me Margot Robbie in the bath again.
