Review of The Big Short (2015) by Logan M — 28 Mar 2018
The Big Short takes advantage of the old equation of Comedy=Tragedy+Time to scathingly reflect on how the housing bubble crisis occurred. Adam McKay's screenplay is excellent in providing various historical accounts with educational segments on complex economic matters that otherwise would go over the audience's heads.
Not only that, but it features rich dialogue and a fast pace that keeps the audience's attention. All of this is of course is made possible by it's stellar cast, especially Steve Carrell who effectively provides the frustration that the audience can empathize with and who they can cling on to for a moral compass in a film filled with immoral characters.
Overall, this film perfectly captures the short-sighted, greediness of unchecked Capitalism with a savagely witty reflection of it's most recent economic disaster in the United States.
