Review of The Big Red One (1980) by David F — 13 May 2011
Director Sam Fuller's swan song, a semi-autobiographical series of sketches based on his experiences in that storied division during WWII. Film has a lot of fans, but I never really cared too much for the aloof characters - they never really seemed fleshed out.
Doesn't really come together until the finale taking place during the liberation of a concentration camp, featuring a memorable sequence between grizzled sarge Lee Marvin and a young victim of the Holocaust.
