Review of The Big Red One (1980) by Freddie F — 14 Nov 2012
Not as brilliant overall as I remember, but there are some brilliant sections to it. Strangely peppered with what I felt was some misjudged humour, but you forget about this (as clearly I had), as the latter half of the film is pretty much perfect.
Lee Marvin, does of course give a fantasic performance which holds the whole film together. Also includes a very well staged sequence detailling the D Day landings, without the need for Tom blinkin' Hanks.
A cracker.
