Review of The Big Red One (1980) by Dustin G — 23 Nov 2012
This had an odd pacing to it. An odd feel. I wasn't sure how I felt about that for the first half and then I read something in an essay Ebert did that said that Fuller purposely made the film that way because that's what war is: a series of unconnected episodes that have nothing to do with each other except as stories of how you tried to stay alive.
That helps. Also the second half was quite good. I love Sammy Fuller. I wish to hell he was still around.
