Review of The Big Chill (1983) by Stefan R — 07 Jan 2008
I guess some people find the tongue-in-cheek romanticizations of middle class yuppies and the compromises they've had to make in their "fall from hippie grace" comforting. I personally think the whole movie is one big fucking compromise.
Although I have no patience for its rationalization of middle class apathy over radicalism, it is at least aware of itself doing so. Plus William Hurt's character is sometimes lovable and raises interesting points.
And the way it addresses death and loss is pretty good.
