Review of The Big Chill (1983) by Amanda H — 20 Jun 2009
Once they get past the funeral this is a good movie. But why on Earth did Kevin Kline play the funeral that way? The horrible attempt at crying is one of the worst ever committed to celuloid and borders on parody.
I felt bad for Kevin! Wow, you fucked that scene up pal! As soon as the soundtrack really kicks in (with Rolling Stones leaving the funeral) the film hits another gear and starts to become several layered character studies.
William Hurt is quite excellent and Jeff Goldblum is interestingly different. But yeah, opening scene is terrible.
