Review of The Big Chill (1983) by Jake C — 08 Dec 2017
Remains sincere without ever slipping fully into sentimentality, funny without devolving into farce. The message may, by the end, turn out to be happiness in resignation, hopelessness in riches, a slickly cynical outlook on how 60s youth counterculture turned into 80s yuppy centralists.
Despite the transformation from a mythical materialism (grounded in revolution) to a modern materialism (grounded in Reagan), the point here is what remains ideal and eternal: Friendship, love, sex, drugs, & rock 'n roll.
