Review of The Big Chill (1983) by Leslie C — 31 Jan 2007
I am a fan of ensemble dramedies. This one is sort of the mother of all of them, and there are aspects to it that make it a classic: the slice of life quality to it, the convincing chemistry between the main players, the greatest-hits-esque soundtrack, Lawrence Kasdan, Kevin Kline, the coked-up Glenn Close, the manchild quality of Jeff Goldblum.
I had a few issues with it though...Jobeth Williams, Meg Tilly, and Tom Berenger were just slightly better than adequate, which sucks because they were giving decent material. The contrived drama between William Hurt and Meg Tilly didn't work for me.
And the scene where Kevin Kline and Mary Kay Place are having sex-- a 15-second cringe for me.
