Review of The Bet (2007) by Julia M — 19 Jul 2008

First 2 mins & I was really worried I had made a big mistake choosing the movie. (amateur look -cheesy mouth shots to set up the bet etc ;-).

But the movie was worth watching just for the beautiful shots of sydney. (made me want to go live there).

30 mins into the movie I was curious to see what the outcome would be - before then I didn't care much either way.

Overall - I would have loved to have seen a hell of a win for the hero - rather than to be left with the feeling that one shouldnt ever mess with the high class establishment (cambridge)...or else...

Something stuck with me out of this - am not quite sure what... perhaps it was the lead actors' sunny optimism - alongside the concerns of the earnest , girlfriend - maybe it was the feeling that stakes really are high in the game of life - and that people do have their own agendas. (even if one doesnt see the results on an electronic scoreboard).
