Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Codie E — 30 Nov 2007
A wondeful and arguementative film about the problems of returning to a place you know but not fitting in. Wyler's subtle direction is pitch perfect, drawing terrific performances by some of the cast; Harold Russell, Frederic March, Myrna Loy and Cathy O'Donnell and creating a realistic and untheatrical environment, complemented perfectly by Gregg Toland's deep focus photography.
Also, some of the scenes are truely heartbreaking.
