Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Christopher Llewellyn R — 24 May 2013
I just finished watching this, after having somehow missed it all these years, and I am still profoundly moved by the experience. Not since I first watched It's a Wonderful Life have I been left so teary-eyed and sentimental.
The final wedding scene between real-life double-amputee Harold Russell - as Homer Parish - and his childhood sweetheart, Wilma, which unfolds as the luminescent Teresa Wright and extremely appealiing Dana Andrews gaze longingly at each other, caused me to choke up.
Never has a film left me feeling more bereft at my own inability to find true love . . . Of course, I have never had Teresa Wright yearn for me in this way, either.
