Review of The Best Years of Our Lives (1946) by Michael L — 12 Mar 2009
A compelling look at the lives of three vets who return to fictional Boone City after WWII. How they fit in, deal with combat PTSD and assimilate back into "the real world" is handled in a realistic, believable way.
Gregg Toland's amazing cinematography is stunning with his "deep focus photography" method. The film benefits from director William Wyler and actor Harold Russell both serving in the military which lends to several subtle set and character authenticities that help the film stand above any typical melodrama of it's time.
A great script executed by the an all-around solid cast that remians a timeless classic. It won 7 Oscars including Best Picture.
