Review of The Beastmaster (1982) by Janis L — 07 Jul 2007
Looking back when I was a kid I thought it was like, "Wow, sorcery, somebody wanting to take over the crown by an evil priest Maax, an heir (Dar)born to a cow and marked the Beastmaster, a couple of ferrets- Kodo and Podo, a panther, an eagle, and a group of eagle-like creatures.
" And now that I see it again I say the story itself is way too simple and the really cheesy part was when he was swinging around his sword on hilltops that was supposed to impress fantasy fans but it just made me cringe.
Uwwhh! He needed the teaching of Maximus Dessimos Aurelius (the Gladiator)to fight on his own. The Jun riders outnumbered Dar and the villagers and there came these creatures that wrapped the riders into their arms and dissolved them! I thought the idea was original.
Can you imagine running away from these guys and whoop..you're slowly melting! Even heroes need some saving sometimes. You have to be in the mood for a "light" fantasy film to somehow appreciate this.
