Review of The Basketball Diaries (1995) by Bipasha D — 03 Feb 2008
There are some great movies that capture the essence of drug addiction (Blow, Requiem for a Dream, etc). This isn't one of them. Glossed over subplots and undeveloped characters are seperated by weak action sequences with DiCaprio slam dunks lit up by fake lightning bolts.
Despite being based on a true story the drug scene is portrayed like a DARE after school special.
