Review of The Conrad Boys (2006) by Charles P — 30 Oct 2009
One thing I've learned over the years is that when a film brags about the writer also being the director AND the lead actor, it can't be good. It's Justin Lo's first attempt at a movie, which is rather noticeable, but it seems as if his inexperience is used as a crutch if the film left more to be desired.
"Charile" ends up taking too many roles in the story. From a guardian, a troubled lover, and an angsty youth with a dark past, he is unable to develop a character as he is forced to keep switching faces every other scene.
"Jordan", played by Nick Bartzen, doesn't achieve much more than just looking pretty. His acting skills are light years beyond the rest of the cast, but that really isn't saying much.
The story is incredibly predictable and the ending is very disappointing. (Charlie is flat out doomed to be a pussy for the rest of his life) One isn't going to find much here that they haven't seen in every other gay drama out there.
These kind of movies get to a point to where you just hope that the expected sex scene will be moderately hot enough if only to redeem the movie ever so slightly. Well guess what? It's over in 5 seconds.
