Review of The Barkleys of Broadway (1949) by Elizabeth N — 18 Sep 2007
Not Fred and Ginger's best I have to admit, maybe it missed the RKO magic but it is still anaamazing film to watch. Having still not seen 'Shall We Dance' I haven't witnessed the original 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' but the song is a favourite of mine so I was pretty excited when I finally got to see Fred sing it. The dance number during that song was also one of the most beautiful moments in the scene, amazingly acted by Rogers as well. I also felt that song just fit perfectly in with the theme and emotion of that part of the film.
Overall it lacked a certain spark and magic of the earlier Astaire and Rogers films but still highly recommended.
