Review of The Band's Visit (2007) by Andress L — 16 Feb 2009
The setting is simple but the film goes deep into the emotions and subtleties of human behavior. Credits definitely go to the screenplay writer.
The Egyptian band and the Isarali residents speak different languages yet they manage to communicate with one another using limited English. The actors/actresses are very good indeed for their gestures and facial expressions speak volumes.
What's most interesting is the use of hesitation, delivery of lines and their non-verbal interactions. The funniest part is how Haled, a flirty young band member, demonstrated to a wallflower Papi how to show affection to a girl. Papi imitated every move Haled made and that scene was very humorous.
